A How-To Quickie!
I am little Ms. Procrastinator and I waited until last night to do my original Do-it-yourself project which unfortunately failed because of the wrong tools. But I have this quick and dirty project for you now and there will also be a DIY Wednesday!
One of my favourite sites, Refinery 29, featured an awesome post on the bow-tie as a spring trend for girls! I instantly loved this idea so I made one out of an old hair clip and a pin.

I broke a rule. It’s a girl rule AND a fashion rule so it’s pretty important. I bought the same thing as a friend. Before you gasp and point your fingers yelling, “shame” let me explain. I work with this cute, stylish girl who loves vintage shopping so whenever we work together we talk about our latest finds, stores we plan to visit, etc. She owns these amazing brown lace-up boots and I have been obsessed with them forever. On Friday, I was in the Queen East Area (Riverdale) and I had to visit Common Sort, a great consignment/thrift store that I never get the chance to visit as often as I would like. It was my boyfriend, Wes’s birthday yesterday but we are celebrating it tonight where I’m giving him his gifts and where we plan to drink a meter of beer. Being the DIY/Thrift-obsessed person that I am I decided to make him a gift as well as find something spectacular at a thrift store. Wes is obsessed with bikes (he has four) and doesn’t have any decorations on his wall. (Yes two unrelated things but I’m coming to that.) He also loves t-shirts, weird right? He has over sixty t-shirts, plain shirts, patterned shirts, wolf shirts, and band shirts. So for his birthday I decided to hand embroider a picture of a bike so he can hang it on the wall AND find him a hilarious vintage t-shirt.

Yet another 24 hours later
The smell isn’t out of the leather jacket. Yes quite sad, I think I need something stronger. My lace cardigan is coming along nicely and I think it will smell perfectly in a day or so. My next attempt will be locking the items in a room with a vinegar bath as suggested by FinnFlair. But I will have to do this when my roommates aren’t home as they will surely hate me for the smell.

The Problem
A common problem people face who shop at thrift stores and something that prevents people from purchasing thrift store items is odour. That mothball smell that reminds us of our grandmother’s attics is not attractive and makes or breaks a purchase especially if the items are not washable. Enter my green leather jacket, and lace cardigan. This jacket is amazing but smelly and after letting it “air out” for a few days it remained smelly. This lace cardigan has been washed but still smells like an attic. I love these two garments so to save them and to help you shop thrift(!) I went looking for a (cheap) home solution.
In the beginning of January I asked people to vote on which Men’s

so I did it today!

I started My Vintage Secret well into my thrifting days so there are a lot of great items that you haven’t seen. So today is a catch-up day! I love vintage purses because they are almost always greater quality then what you can find in mainstream stores. I love the idea of paying $5 for a bag that will last longer than a $50 one manufactured today. Without further ado, here are some of my favourite purses.

I’m sure most of you have heard the news about Alexander McQueen’s death. He was an amazing designer and innovator, and his absence will cause a huge impact. I didn’t realize how much I would be affected, but I think everyone in fashion or who knew of his amazing talent are feeling like they lost a part of themselves. I’ve decided to dedicate a do-it-yourself project to him. My prayers go out to his family.

A little bit about the work that goes into Coach:
Only the top 10% of quality leather is chosen to become a Coach handbag and the leather is slow cured in large drums with rotation for several days. The leather is then enriched with natural treatments which produces a softening effect to bring out the individual grain of each piece of leather.
