The Pleated Skirt

Buying the “basics” was one of the only rules that my mother
pushed on me while growing up. When I chose to take my
mother shopping with me, white shirts, black pants and a “good pair of jeans” were forever suggested as well as the question, “well what do you have that will go with that?” Practical? Yes. Annoying? When you’re a teenager, yes! Since then I have learned the value of basics and always have a good white shirt in my closet, in various sleeve lengths… and necklines… and fabrics (happy mom?)

My latest find is one of these basics. I like shopping for classic pieces in thrift stores because they are always cheaper and better quality. A pleated skirt can easily be associated with school uniforms and as my title suggests, Britney Spears, BUT they look great with everything, especially when they are a gorgeous wool charcoal piece like my latest purchase. Unexpectedly, after searching through some of the latest fashion shows, I failed to find many ideas on how to style the pleated skirt. You may think I should take it as a hint that the pleated skirt itself is unfashionable but I disagree. Above are a few ideas that I pulled from the runways, and I’m determined to follow suit and find a modern way to wear the pleated skirt. I may just have to accessorize with a ‘fro like in Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection, yes? How would you style this? Do you own a pleated skirt?
