Yet another 24 hours later

The smell isn’t out of the leather jacket. Yes quite sad, I think I need something stronger. My lace cardigan is coming along nicely and I think it will smell perfectly in a day or so. My next attempt will be locking the items in a room with a vinegar bath as suggested by FinnFlair. But I will have to do this when my roommates aren’t home as they will surely hate me for the smell.

  1. Thanks for the tips and helpful links – I thought I was doomed to musty-ness forever.

  2. I’ve decided to try the baking soda as well. I’m making a list of all the clothes I need to ‘deodorize’, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hello! I checked this blog as a reference because I recently bought a leather bag on eBay that arrived smelling like VERY strong “thrift store.” I tried the baking soda & orange peels, but to no avail :( The smell was just so strong that I couldn’t even smell the leather on the bag anymore! Yuck!

Do you want to know what really helped? I put the bag on a hanger and hung it outside in the open air. Even in this cold weather, I put it outside during the day for 4 hours yesterday and 8 hours today. I think that did the trick! Maybe just a few more hours in sunlight if possible (I hear UV is good for getting smells out), but otherwise it is great! I smell leather :)

I just wanted to give a little helpful advice for the leather jacket! Good Luck :)

Sorry to comment again, but I DID see that you aired it out, but I didn’t know if you meant outside.

I’ve also heard good things about activated charcoal/carbon. You can buy it at any home improvement store.

@Kells Thank-you so much for your suggestions! I’m going to try and air it out just like you did. Hopefully it would work! I was also disappointed with the orange peels, it turned out to be a zesty-mothball smell :( If that doesn’t work I’ll try the activated charcoal/carbon

Thanks again and thanks for commenting!
