The Project
I wanted to do a fun and easy DIY and while searching for ideas I came across the following photos. I immediately pulled my plain yellow sweater out of the closet and began brainstorming ideas on how I can personalize this project. The word was the toughest part. This was a crucial decision as any sort of phrase across your chest is a conversation piece. I almost stitched “word” on my sweater but thought I might lose the few cool points I have. I decided to stick with something French and since my brain was not working properly (school is supposed to be inspiring right?) I chose “Jaune” which is French for yellow. I love the result and hope to inspire you to try your own project!

The Hand Embroidered vintage knitwear from Lauralaura.net are one-of-a-kind. She can custom-design a sweater for you and has a range of other great gifts to buy!
Materials
- Embroidery Floss – you can get this at most craft stores, wal-mart and Fabricland and from a younger sister or niece who likes to make friendship bracelets
- needle
- Thrifted sweater – knitted works best for this project
- A cool typeface: I chose My First F from DaFont
- A word you would like to project to the world
Recommended Instructions
- Pick a word and typeface and print off or replicate at a size you prefer
- Trace word onto sweater with pencil (my choice) or fabric chalk. If your sweater is dark you may want to use a window as a light source to help trace.
- Start stitchin! I used a chain stitch. As the photos demonstrate it is a series of loops. Here is a handy guide to some other decorative stitches
