The End Result!

bootstrap_finished1

The bootstraps are done! I can say with complete honesty that this was one of my easiest DIYs. Thanks to everyone helping me decide on which option to do from last week! I really pleased with the results and while you read this I’m probably showing this DIY off to Airport Security after they ask me to remove my boots. I’ll have to redirect the security officers to my blog for the instructions…

The Process

  1. Materials: Boring boots, studs, two identical(ish) belts, pliers, bedazzler (a hammer can probably help push them through), x-acto knife
  2. Finding the belts: I was fortunate enough to find these two identical belts at Double Take Thrift Store for $1 each. Second-hand stores are your best bet for finding cheap belts
  3. Buy studs. You can either find a belt with studs and rip them off or buy them at a leather store or you can also find these studs online at, studsand spikes.com, (based in the US) they have many colours and sizes, and “ships to any country on Earth”. They also accept many methods of payment including Paypal.
  4. Now that you have all your materials, get going! Pick out a pattern that appeals to you. I tried many but I’m going with the same as the Chloe Boots featured on Knighttcat in my previous post.
  5. Use an x-acto knife to cut through the belt for the pyramid stud prongs but it’s helpful to make an imprint on the belt with the stud for placement.
  6. Next use pliers to fold the back of the stud prongs down
  7. For the smaller studs I used my trusty bedazzler. You can use a hammer to move the studs through and then push the back prongs down with a penny.
  8. Continue on until you’re done! This super-easy DIY probably took me an hour to do after I found all the materials.

The Visual Steps

I hope you like them! Would you have changed anything? I would love to hear your thoughts!

So can you take the belts off and wear them with different shoes as well? Sort of like an accessory that you can wear with any pair of boots. Actually, sounds like a good business idea :)

  2. kaitlin says:

Yes they’re completely transferable so when these boots die I can wear the straps with others. Haha I’ll have to get a team of bedazzlers for “Kaitlin’s Studded Bootstraps” – the name needs work ;)

Question: How do you get the strap/belt to stay on the boot without sliding all around. Any suggestions. Thanks :)
