Hello! I have accumulated a few dress shirts and long-sleeved tops so obviously a DIY from my Cool Couture Remake book is in order! Please vote below for the one you want to see and I’ll post the winner on Friday and show you the results next Tuesday.

I sit here in the Prairies boyfriend-less and friend-less and will
do so on New Year’s Eve. This is a lesson to you all: don’t let
your mother book your flight, she won’t let you go! So while
I am playing board games with my family everyone better
be having a fun time. To get you in the party mood during the
day you should don something twinkly and weather-appropriate, like these knee highs! Whether you wear them with oxfords, heels or peeking out the top of your boots this easy DIY project will have you and those around you ready to take on the town.

My first DIY post featuring projects from my Cool Couture
Remake book
had so many votes that I’m going to continue to
do all of them! I’m home for Christmas and I forgot my book
(eek!) so I had to use extra brain power to figure out the Balloon
Silhouette and included instructions for an ultra simple version
(#6) of this DIY.

The End Result!

bootstrap_finished1

The bootstraps are done! I can say with complete honesty that this was one of my easiest DIYs. Thanks to everyone helping me decide on which option to do from last week! I really pleased with the results and while you read this I’m probably showing this DIY off to Airport Security after they ask me to remove my boots. I’ll have to redirect the security officers to my blog for the instructions…

The Project

I have had these boots for about three years, I got them from
the ultra-glam store, Sears, but they have been my reliable
go-to-boots for when the weather gets too cold. Last year I decided to pimp them by adding these studs. I liked the result at the time but I think I want to do something different this season. Below you will find the instructions for this DIY and my new proposal! Help!

It’s finished! As chosen by you, I conducted The Bow DIY. It was
a lot of fun and very simple to do. Please check out the verbal
instructions below, the corresponding gallery, and video!
I would like to thank everyone for participating in the DIY
vote last week and to stay tuned more DIYs from this book!

The Inspiration

Last week one of my favourite Toronto bloggers, Karyn from
Makesomething.ca,  featured Cool Couture Remake Dresses,
a Japanese Dress book (one of many she features) that transforms
men’s sweatshirts and dress shirts into one-of-a-kind pieces. I was so inspired by her
post that I went to Etsy and bought a copy for myself! But a problem arose when I started
planning for this DIY…

I wanted to participate in this “bold shoulder” trend but I
wanted to do something a little bit different and a little less
“bold” and still have some impact. I found these appliques
at Sussman’s Bridal and Costume Supplies on Queen Street
and a blazer that needed some jazz at a thrift store.
Here’s how I did it:

I found these awesome Aigle riding boots at a garage sale
(my blog post about these lovely things) but they lacked
pizazz so I decided to make bootstraps! Making these straps
really easy, the tricky part is finding the right materials if
you want to recycle like me/if you’re really cheap like me.
But, you can find the materials at any leather or craft store.
I bought two belts, both from Double Take Thrift Store (“Yonge
Street Mission” in listing) on Gerrard and Parliament where the
belts sell for $1 each, and ripped them apart to make bootstraps.
Here’s how I did it:
