It was my boyfriend, Wes’s birthday yesterday but we are celebrating it tonight where I’m giving him his gifts and where we plan to drink a meter of beer. Being the DIY/Thrift-obsessed person that I am I decided to make him a gift as well as find something spectacular at a thrift store. Wes is obsessed with bikes (he has four) and doesn’t have any decorations on his wall. (Yes two unrelated things but I’m coming to that.) He also loves t-shirts, weird right? He has over sixty t-shirts, plain shirts, patterned shirts, wolf shirts, and band shirts. So for his birthday I decided to hand embroider a picture of a bike so he can hang it on the wall AND find him a hilarious vintage t-shirt.
Bike Picture:
I used a backstitch for the frame and a chain stitch for the wheels. Check out the videos below on how to perform these stitches. Keep on Reading »

In the beginning of January I asked people to vote on which Men’s
Dress Shirt DIY I should do from one of my favourite books, Cool
Couture Remake Dresses. One of the runners up was Tie-Me-Up
so I did it today!

I’m sure most of you have heard the news about Alexander McQueen’s death. He was an amazing designer and innovator, and his absence will cause a huge impact. I didn’t realize how much I would be affected, but I think everyone in fashion or who knew of his amazing talent are feeling like they lost a part of themselves. I’ve decided to dedicate a do-it-yourself project to him. My prayers go out to his family.

I had Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin stuck in my head as I was making this DIY. It didn’t turn out exactly like the picture last week in the proposal (yes, it’s quite different) so I think grooving to Aretha had an influence on me. Here it is!

Proposal
Boring isn’t it? I have started re-purposing this bag several times but every time I begin another new idea pops into my head. So I require your help! Please help me decide which project to do! To vote please comment below.

I decided to do another project from my Cool Couture Remake
Book that I introduced in a former post. The Flutter Sleeve was
one of my favourite DIYs so I was very excited to do this project.
Mine turned out a little differently (my “flutter” is smaller because I used a small sweatshirt) and even though it reminds me (a teensy bit) of a shoulder pads a football player would wear, I’m happy with the results. Check out my instructions and gallery to see how I re-purposed a casual and boring sweatshirt into a feminine, wearable (and sporty) piece.

Fur necklace? Yes you heard correctly. I started this DIY knowing that I would either produce a huge mistake or something super cool. And while I don’t know what you think about the result (though someone I showed referred to it as a “rat”) I’m in love, in fact I’m wearing it today I’m so happy with it. Rat or not, here is how to turn a boring second-hand fur collar into something more wearable and exciting.

Done! Last Tuesday I had asked for your help in deciding which DIY to do and you picked the Tank-Dress! I really enjoyed this DIY from my Cool Couture Remake Book! It was easy and well thought through, especially when they turned in the sleeves to use as pockets! BRILLIANT! I made two of the dresses mostly because I could not decide which shirt to use! I hope you like it!

Hello! I have accumulated a few dress shirts and long-sleeved tops so obviously a DIY from my Cool Couture Remake book is in order! Please vote below for the one you want to see and I’ll post the winner on Friday and show you the results next Tuesday.

I sit here in the Prairies boyfriend-less and friend-less and will
do so on New Year’s Eve. This is a lesson to you all: don’t let
your mother book your flight, she won’t let you go! So while
I am playing board games with my family everyone better
be having a fun time. To get you in the party mood during the
day you should don something twinkly and weather-appropriate, like these knee highs! Whether you wear them with oxfords, heels or peeking out the top of your boots this easy DIY project will have you and those around you ready to take on the town.
